Dear Raider Fans,
We invite you to Partner with the Pros and become a contributing supporter
of The Silver and Black Fund by purchasing some of our unique memorabila
at our on-line store.
Players such as Steve Davis, Lindsey Mason, Mike Davis and others need your
help today. They are facing high medical bills, painful treatments and yes
the frustration of knowing they need your help to cope with their
individual medical issues. Over the next few months you will be given an inside look
at what happens to those ultra fit physical specimins who sacrificed their
bodies as a result of years of professional football.
Yes, there are even ex-players who have fallen on hard times, players often
too proud to come forward, to reach out. Many have serious medical problems
and modest medical benefits. The perception is if you played professional
sports you've got to be rich. What most people don't realize is that our
medical benefits, compared to corporate America, are not great. A number of
these players are handicapped. The Jack Tatum's, who developed diabetes and
had a leg amputated. There are others.
Former fullback Steve Smit has Lou Gehrig's disease and needs
$10,000-$15,000 just in medical expenses per month in order to sustain the
treatments he needs. Ex-quarterback David Humm has multiple sclerosis.
Former tackle Lindsey Mason needs a heart transplant. Reggie Kinlaw needs
two knee replacements. Mike Davis has hearing difficulties. The needs are
great but with your help and the help of many others the game can be WON!
